Udine-C Network: Understanding Development Issues in Nurse Educator Careers
UDINE-C is an informal group which promotes friendship, respect and intellectual exchange with health professionals interested in the development of nursing research; education and practice skills across all member countries in the following areas:
- Research in Nursing,
- Nursing development projects,
- Annual conference and meetings, and
- Exchange of ideas, skills and people.
UDINE-C members support each other in the development of nursing practice in all the above areas.
University of Maribor, Faculty of Health Sciences is organizing UDINE-C Group Meeting and International Scientific Conference of international partner universities and UDINE-C Group members entitled “Research and Education in Nursing« from 14th to 17th June 2016.
UDINE-C Group Meeting in Maribor focuses on recent publications and research collaborations among existing and new members. Ongoing and future project proposals on nursing development and scientific research papers within the International Scientific Conference “Research and Education in Nursing” will be discussed. Furthermore, the members will be discussing best practice for postgraduate student’s supervision.

Assoc Prof Majda Pajnkihar, PhD
She is a Founding Member of UDINE-C Group and host of the UDINE-C meeting 2016.
Majda Pajnkihar is an Associate Professor, Dean of University of Maribor, Faculty of Health Sciences and Head of the Nursing Institute. She is the first in Slovenia with a PhD in the field of nursing and holds the authorship for an issued textbook for nursing in Slovenian language. As a visiting professor she gives lectures in a number of foreign universities. Assoc Prof Majda Pajnkihar, PhD is in many ways a pioneer in the development of nursing in Slovenia, that is why her work was recognized with various awards.
Prof Sonja Šostar Turk, PhD
Sonja is the Vice Dean for Postgraduate education of University of Maribor, Faculty of Health Sciences. She has a PhD in the field of Textile Chemistry and Environmental Engineering and is a leader and researcher in many international projects. Sonja was head of the FP7 Project SMILES Slovenian project team, which was awarded by the United Nations Environment Programme and the National Energy Globe Award Slovenia.
Assoc Prof Gregor Štiglic, PhD
Gregor is the Vice Dean for Research of University of Maribor, Faculty of Health Sciences. Over the years he significantly contributed to the development of health informatics in the local and wider area. His research interests encompass machine learning techniques with application to bioinformatics and healthcare. Data-mining research and projects, he is involved, in put the University of Maribor, Faculty of Health Sciences on the world map of research institutions. He also worked as a visiting professor at Temple University and Stanford.
Sr Lect Klavdija Čuček Trifkovič, PhD
Klavdija is the Vice Dean for Undergraduate Education of University of Maribor, Faculty of Health Sciences. Her research interests are related to the field of quality and satisfaction with life and mental disorders. Her main research interest is focused on the problems in the psychiatric field, such as alcoholism, depression, and the quality of life. Also, an important area of her professional and research interest is supervision.
Lect Barbara Donik, MSc
Barbara research interests are surgical nursing and communication. From 2010 onwards she is the vice-president of the Nurses, Midwives and Health Technicians Association Maribor. She is also the president of the Commission for tutoring to help students in their studies and coordinates the Alumni activities of the faculty.
Assist Prof Jadranka Stričević, PhD
Jadranka is active in the field of paediatric nursing. She has a great research interest in ergonomics, especially among public health care employees, therefore was project coordinator of many projects.
Sr Lect Mateja Lorber, PhD
Mateja’s research interest are based on research in nursing, gerontological nursing and managing chronic diseases. She is a member of the Slovenian nursing journal editorial board and works as a coordinator of students volunteers at the faculty.
Lect Barbara Kegl, MSc
Barbara is active in the field of paediatric, community and out-patient nursing of the undergraduate study program Nursing care of University of Maribor, Faculty of Health Sciences. She has presented her work at international conferences, and published in national and foreign journals.
Lect Jasmina Nerat
Jasmina gives lectures in the field of nursing care of internist patient with internal medicine at the undergraduate study program Nursing Care of University of Maribor, Faculty of Health Sciences.

Professor Emeritus Charles Anthony (Tony) Butterworth
Anthony Charles Butterworth is a Founding Member of UDINE-C Group.
Tony Butterworth is a qualified mental health and general nurse with significant experience in hospital and community settings as well as in teaching and research. He has published extensively and supervised more than 20 students to the successful completion of their PhD. He worked as a clinical nurse in acute mental health services, emergency and orthopaedic care and in community psychiatry. He developed and led one of the first educational courses for community psychiatric nurses in the world and developed original work on clinical supervision for nurses, midwives and health visitors.
Assoc Prof Christine Jackson, PhD
She is a Founding Member of UDINE-C Group.
Christine is a visiting professor at University of Maribor, Faculty of Health Sciences.Christine's PhD relates to assessment of clinical competence in the newly qualified radiotherapy workforce. She has worked in partnership with the Department of Health on a number of projects including the StLaR HR Project and the UKCRC subcommittee for nurses in Clinical Research. Currently she works with the Mental Health Research Education and Development Group.
Ian McGonagle, MSc
Principal Lecturer concentrates most of his clinical career in services for people with long term mental health problems, both in-patient residential services and in the community. Externally funded project and research work with a range of service providers and Government departments. He teaches on the master’s programme in Social Work and contribute to the development of the new mental health degree in nursing.
Sr Lect Paul Turner, MSc
Paul Turner is a Senior Lecturer in College of Social Science. He leads for the dissertation module of the BSc (Hons) Nursing Adult and Mental Health programme and lecture in management, change, statistics and health economics in the other programmes within the school.
Ros Kane,PhD
Ros Kane is a Reader in College of Social Science. She is a member of both the Community and Health Research Unit (CaHRU) and Mental Health, Health and Social Care Research Group (MH2aSC). She has a strong interest in quality improvement as well as service and policy evaluation, particularly in relation to sexual and reproductive health.
Sr Lect Maria Joyce, PhD
Maria Joyce is a Senior Lecturer in College of Social Science. Her nursing career led from nursing to midwifery to extensive work as a health visitor and specialist community public health nurse where she worked both in London.

Prof John Wells, PhD
Professor John Wells is the head of the School of Health Sciences at Waterford Institute of Technology and is a qualified mental health nurse and teacher. His principal areas of expertise lie in the impact and interpretation of national and local policy on and by clinicians and the translation of policy into clinical work.
Michael Bergin, PhD
Dr Michael Bergin is a lecturer in Nursing at the Department of Nursing, Waterford Institute of Technology, Ireland. He completed his PhD at the University of Lincoln, UK. His research interests are in the areas of gender and mental health care provision; nurse prescribing; work related stress; codeine use, misuse and dependence and epilepsy care.
Prof Margaret Denny, PhD
Dr Margaret Denny is a lecturer at Waterford Institute of Technology. She received her PhD in Applied psychology from the University College Cork. Her research has led to both theoretical and practical advances in the application of multiple intelligences teaching and learning approaches in third level education. She is currently involved in International educational research proposal with the UDINE-C group of educators.

Prof Árún K. Sigurðardóttir, PhD
PhD in Health Sciences, University of Iceland. Arun's Research interests are Diabetes and life with diabetes, Reflection and empowerment, Patient education using the empowerment theory and Anesthesia nursing and intensive care nursing.

Prof Dianne Cooney Miner, PhD
Dr Dianne Cooney Miner holds a doctoral degree from Adelphi University and is a dean and professor at St. John Fisher College's Wegmans School of Nursing. She is an extended member of the New York State Board for Nursing, and as chair of the licensure and education committee. She has been appointed to the board of trustees of St. Joseph's Neighborhood Health Center in Rochester. Her research interests are neuroscience, collaboration and coordination and health care teams.
Assoc Prof Marilyn Dollinger, PhD
Dr Marilyn Dollinger is Associate Dean and professor of the Wegmans School of Nursing at St. John Fisher College. She received a Doctorate of Nursing Science from the University of Buffalo. As Associate Dean of the Wegmans School of Nursing, she teaches courses on healthcare policy and legislative advocacy at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. Dr Dollinger is also a member of the New York State Committee to Advance Nursing Education, working locally and at the state level to advocate for important nursing education legislation.

Prof Christa Them, PhD
Christa Them is university professor and head of the Department of Nursing Science and Gerontology, UMIT - University for Health Sciences, Medical Informatics and Technology, Hall in Tyrol. Her research focuses are: Nursing pedagogics, Educational policy, Qualitative nursing research and care of people suffering from age-related diseases.
Assist Prof Eva Schulc, PhD
Eva Schulc studied Sports and Health Sciences and is a registered physiotherapist. She completed her PhD in Nursing Science at UMIT, the Health & Life Sciences University, in Tyrol/Austria in 2010. She has worked as a Scientist at the Institute of Nursing Science at UMIT since 2006. Her research focuses on mobile care provided to elderly people.

Assoc Prof Nataliya Kasimovskaya
Assoc Prof Nataliya Kasimovskaya is the dean at I. M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University, Faculty of Higher Nursing Training, Psychology and Social Work, Moscow, Russian Federation.
