International Scientific Conference:

“Research and Education in Nursing«

Maribor, June 9th 2022

University of Maribor Faculty of Health Sciences is organizing, for 10th year in a row, an international scientific conference “Research and Education in Nursing” which will be held on June 9th 2022 in Maribor and will include most recent findings of domestic and foreign researchers in nursing and other fields of healthcare.

The conference aims to explore explore advances in nursing and health care research as well as research-based education, in Slovenian and international arena. Furthermore, it will provide an opportunity for practitioners and educators to exchange research evidence, models of best practice and innovative ideas.

It is our great pleasure to host plenary lectures by world-renowned, award-winning and respected professors and researchers. Professor Fiona Timmins is committed to researching education and improving the quality of teaching in nursing. Dr. Suzanne Denieffe’s research area is improving the quality of life of marginalized and vulnerable groups. Professor Marie Carney is an expert in leadership and advanced nursing practice in nursing and midwifery.

Prof Fiona Timmins

Prof Fiona Timmins, PhD, FFNRSCI                

 She is a Professor of Nursing, Dean, and Head of School at the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems, University College Dublin and Editor in Chief of the Journal of Nursing Management. She is a competent researcher who has led several interdisciplinary, international research teams over a 20-year period. Her CV reflects a breadth and range of interests and experiences. As a capable teacher and mentor, she is committed to researching in education and improving teaching quality. She has published numerous papers, with 188 peer-reviewed papers listed in Scopus. There are at least 1522 recorded citations of her published papers in Scopus. Her research lies within two distinct but overlapping themes: teaching and learning and professional nursing issues. She has presented widely on these topics: more than 220 international papers, with research replicated widely across the globe. Her H-index (Scopus) is 23.

 

Dr Suzanne Denieffe

Dr Suzanne Denieffe, PhD                  

Dr Suzanne Denieffe is currently Head of Humanities in Waterford Institute of Technology since 2018 having previously held the position of Head of Department of Nursing from 2014. She has been involved in nurse education and research for over 20 years. She is passionate and devoted to inquiry and scholarly investigation, viewing as particularly important research that has demonstrable impact. She has developed expertise in both qualitative and quantitative research and have been principal investigator for several funded research projects.  The uniting thread of her research is a focus on improving quality of life for marginalised and vulnerable groups.

 

Professor Marie Carney

Professor Marie Carney, PhD                                                 

Prof Marie Carney completed her PhD studies and MBA degree in University College Dublin (UCD) and is a registered nurse, midwife and nurse teacher and  Fellow from the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI). She is Dean Emeritus and Board member of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery having held the position of Dean and Chair of the Faculty from 2014 to 2016. She was appointed to University College Dublin in 1994 and held the position of Head of the UCD School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems from 2001-2007.  She entered RCSI as an Associate Professor in 2008. She acted as Visiting Senior Lecturer and Professor to universities in Italy, Sweden, Finland, Portugal, Spain, Britain, Pennsylvania and Saudi Arabia as well as invited advisor to Nursing Councils in Ireland, Jordan and Croatia. 

Her academic and research focus was on curriculum design, undergraduate nursing education, international nursing developments, strategic management and advanced nursing practice. She is currently the NMBI Subject Expert in advanced nurse and midwife practice.  She remains an active researcher in the field of regulation of nursing practice and advanced nurse and midwife practice. She was awarded Outstanding Reviewer for the International Journal of Health Care Quality Assurance in the Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence in 2015 and is an editorial reviewer for several international peer-reviewed journals. Her research is published in peer-reviewed journals of repute and during  60 invited international presentations. She has held membership of multiple national and international professional organisations which include the American Organisation of Nurse Executives (AONE), FINE (Federation of International Nursing in Europe) and Thematic European Nursing Network for Advanced Practice in Nursing (TENN).


 

 

General Information:

  • Abstracts can be submitted in English or Slovenian, but must be presented in English language.
  • We are requesting abstracts and not full papers; they should be structured using IMRAD.
  • All abstracts will be subject to blind peer review and published in the Conference Proceedings.
  • All authors will receive a Certificate of Participation.
  • Fee payment for the conference:
  • Active participants 150,00 EUR including VAT
  • Passive participants 175,00 EUR including VAT
  • Other students 50,00 EUR including VAT
  • Staff and students of the University of Maribor Faculty of Health Sciences are exempt from the fee payments.
