May 12 is celebrated by nurses in Slovenia and around the world. On this day, in 1820, the world's first nurse, humanist and founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale, was born. We have been celebrating International Nurses' Day since 1965.
This year's International Nurses' Day is held under the theme "Nurses: A Voice to Lead - Invest in Nursing and respect rights to secure global health.". Investing in nurses and their knowledge is investing in progress and global health as well as providing quality and safe health care for patients. The Slovenian Association for Nurses and Midwives emphasises that nurses must be actively involved in health policy and the development of the health system.
On today's International Nurses' Day, we congratulate all the nurses and thank them for their invaluable work.
