The inaugural ceremony of the Dean of the University of Maribor, Faculty of Health Sciences, Assoc Prof Mateja Lorber, PhD, took place on May 11th 2022.
Rector of the University of Maribor Prof Dr Zdravko Kačič symbolically handed over the Dean's insignia to the faculty representative, Assoc Prof Mateja Lorber, PhD. In his address, he said that the Faculty of Health Sciences was breaking new ground in Slovenia in several professional fields. It provides students with high-quality education by including an interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and interprofessional team for the independent implementation of integrated health care for patients in accordance with the acquired competencies. The faculty is approaching the design of new fields of study, aware that the need for nurses with advanced knowledge is increasingly present in health care. In addition to the Rector of the University of Maribor, the invited were also addressed by the State Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport, Assoc Prof Dr Mitja Slavinec, President of the Slovenian Association of Nursing and Midwifery, Monika Ažman, and Adviser in Nursing for Education and Human Resources Development of the University Clinical Center Maribor, Bojana Sečnjak.
New Dean, Assoc Prof Mateja Lorber, PhD, is aware that the central task of her tenure will be to lead the faculty towards achieving the set goals within the set strategy of the faculty, which follows the strategy of university development. This vital aspect contributes to writing its history and ensures sustainable development. The faculty must be visible and visible in the environment in which it operates, so it is necessary to repeatedly take care of its constant development in education and research as well as respect ethical and moral norms.
