12th International Scientific Conference Research and Education in Nursing

Maribor, June 13th 2024

 

University of Maribor Faculty of Health Sciences is organizing the 12th International Scientific Conference Research and Education in Nursing. It will be held on June 13th 2024 in Maribor and will include most recent findings of domestic and foreign researchers in nursing and other fields of healthcare.

The conference aims to explore advances in nursing and health care research as well as research-based education, in Slovenian and international arena. Furthermore, it will provide an opportunity for practitioners and educators to exchange research evidence, models of best practice and innovative ideas.

 

 

It is a great honor for us to host invited lectures by awarded and respected professors and researchers at this year's conference. Intriguing lectures will in more detail present the application of artificial intelligence in nursing, the Ghana research capacity building project, the person-centered concept in nursing as well as the collective impact on adolescent mental well-being.

 

 

Laura-Maria Peltonen

Laura-Maria Peltonen, Associate Professor, PhD, RN, MNSc, FEANS, FIAHSI

University of Turku, Department of Nursing Science, Finland

Laura-Maria's research focuses on information management to support decision-making on different levels in health service provision. Her interests span from the development of user tailored intuitive solutions to applications of artificial intelligence, with a particular focus on the implementation process and measurement of the effects of applied technologies from the perspectives of organisational and patient outcomes. She teaches on bachelor, master and doctoral levels on topics related to healthcare informatics, leadership and management in national and international uni- and interdisciplinary programs. She is a founding member of the Nursing and Artificial Intelligence Leadership (NAIL) -collaborative and fellow of the European Academy of Nursing Science and the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics. She is board member the European Federation for Medical Informatics Nursing Informatics Working Group and she currently chairs the Governance Advisory Panel of the Nursing Informatics Group of the International Medical Informatics Association. She has co-authored about one hundred peer-reviewed scientific articles and more than fifty additional articles intended for the professional community, fifteen book chapters and over twenty texts targeted at the general public (https://orcid.org/0000-0001-5740-6480). Her research has led to several instruments for the assessment of issues related to information management and leadership in healthcare and digital tools to support primary and secondary use of health data.

 

 

Dr Rosie Stenhouse 

Dr Rosie Stenhouse (PhD RMN PGCertHET FHEA)

The University of Edinburgh, School of Health in Social Science, United Kingdom

Dr Rosie Stenhouse is the Head of Nursing Studies and a Senior Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh, as well as the Assistant Director of the Centre for Creative-Relational Inquiry, University of Edinburgh. Since 2019, she has also been a Visiting Associate Professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Maribor, Slovenia. Dr. Stenhouse's is a lecturer at all levels of study, with her research focusing on mental health, research methods, dementia, and emotional intelligence. She is a member of numerous national and international nursing associations and has received many awards and recognitions (https://www.ed.ac.uk/profile/rosie-stenhouse).

 

 

Leona Cilar Budler

Assist Prof Leona Cilar Budler, PhD

University of Maribor, Faculty of Health Sciences, Slovenia

Doc. dr. Leona Cilar Budler is a lecturer and researcher at the University of Maribor Faculty of Health Sciences, where she conducted a comprehensive study for her PhD thesis. This study utilized mixed methods, involving 3000 randomly selected adolescents for the quantitative segment and conducting five distinct focus groups for the qualitative aspect. The focus of her research was on examining the quality of life, social support, and mental well-being of adolescents. Her primary academic interests lie in understanding the quality of life and mental health of children and adolescents.

Her expertise spans various methodological approaches, including structural equation modeling, item response theory, psychometric testing, public health, qualitative methods, and statistical analyses using R and SPSS.

Over the years, her contributions have been recognized through several awards. In 2016, she was honored with the Dean's Recognition Award, followed by the Dean's Award and Praise for Outstanding Achievements. In 2019, she was acknowledged as the Best PhD Student. The following year, she received the Award for Best Researcher and Recognition as a Young Higher Education Teacher for outstanding pedagogical and research achievements. In 2021, she was awarded the Best Researcher of the University of Maribor, Faculty of Health Sciences, for achieving the highest number of points according to the evaluation methodology used by Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency.

Her scholarly contributions extend beyond academia. She has authored more than 20 publications, presented at international conferences, and contributed to the peer-review process for over 180 papers across more than 30 journals. Additionally, she serves as an editorial board member for BMC Nursing journal, Plos One, and Slovenian Nursing Review.

 

 

Sergej Kmetec

Assist Prof Sergej Kmetec, PhD

University of Maribor, Faculty of Health Sciences, Slovenia

Assistant Professor Sergej Kmetec, PhD, RN, BSc, MN has participated in numerous national and international nursing and healthcare projects and has given lectures at universities in Europe. Has been involved in several projects, including Digital TRANSition and dIgiTal resIlience in ONcology (TRANSiTON); Erasmus Mundus Design Measures (EMDM) project: Design and Implementation of Master Degree in Palliative Care (DSGN-PALL-CARE); Person-centredness in Healthcare Curricula (PCCurric); bilateral research collaborations with the USA (Association between sleep quality, fragility and quality of life for older people and Care and clarity of the role and system as factors of satisfaction of nursing staff; and the Self-assessment of palliative care in relation to the mental well-being of employees in social welfare institutions project (PaliOs). He has received training in palliative care, research, and conducting research projects from renowned institutions such as St George's, University of London; The University of Glasgow; The University of Nottingham; the University of South-Eastern Norway, Faculty of Health and Social Sciences; Lancaster University; and Savonia University of Applied Sciences Kuopio Finland. His research interests include nursing, palliative care, hospice care, end-of-life care, care for older adults, person-centred care, education, surgery, emergency care, triage, research methodology, and review. He is a member of Sigma Theta Tau and the European Association of Palliative Care. He is on the editorial board of one of the leading nursing journals in Slovenia (Obzornik zdravstvene nege/Slovenian Nursing Review) and the European Association of Palliative Care blog. He also serves as a reviewer for both domestic and international journals. He authorises or co-authors several international and national journal articles and book chapters.

  • Abstracts can be submitted in English or Slovenian, but must be presented in English language.
  • We are requesting abstracts and not full papers; they should be structured using IMRAD.
  • All abstracts will be subject to blind peer review and published in the Conference Proceedings.
  • All authors will receive a Certificate of Participation.
  • Fee payment for the conference:
    • Active participants 150,00 EUR including VAT
    • Passive participants 180,00 EUR including VAT
    • Other students 50,00 EUR including VAT
    • Staff and retired staff, students of the University of Maribor Faculty of Health Sciences are exempt from the fee payments.
