The University Medical Centre Maribor is a public healthcare institution that provides secondary and tertiary healthcare services, as well as educational and research activities in Maribor and the broader region. For many years, the University Medical Centre Maribor has closely collaborated with the University of Maribor, both in the field of education and in the field of research. Since the 1980s, the predecessor of the University Medical Centre Maribor, the General Hospital Maribor, held the status of a teaching hospital – initially for the Faculty of Medicine in Ljubljana, and with the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine in Maribor, it became a fully clinical hospital and a teaching base for students of the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Health Sciences, as well as the Secondary School of Health and Cosmetics in Maribor and others.

The University Medical Centre Maribor carries out activities that constitute the infrastructural foundation for performing the educational and research work of the University of Maribor. It also performs activities necessary for the fulfilment of higher education activities and enables them with its own work. Through its activities, it complements the university’s higher education mission and collaborates extensively with the university and its members, particularly with the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.

Assoc Prof Mateja Lorber, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Maribor, emphasised the importance of such a partnership on this occasion: “At the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Maribor, we are extremely proud that the University Medical Centre Maribor has become an associated member of the university community. This important step strengthens our mutual professional cooperation, knowledge exchange, and the connection between the educational and clinical environments. We believe that through this partnership, we will contribute even more effectively to enhancing the quality of healthcare, developing innovative approaches, and shaping generations of healthcare professionals who will be academically excellent, responsible, and dedicated to caring for people.
