14th International Scientific Conference

The Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Maribor is delighted to host the 14th International Scientific Conference on Research and Education in Nursing, which will be held on June 11, 2026, in Maribor. This international event will bring together researchers, academics, healthcare professionals, and students from Slovenia and abroad to share research outcomes, professional experiences, and innovative practices in nursing and health sciences.
The conference will address contemporary challenges and emerging trends in education, research, and professional practice, highlighting approaches that support the ongoing development of nursing and health sciences. Its primary aim is to facilitate the exchange of scientific knowledge, research evidence, and best practices, while strengthening collaboration and networking among researchers, higher education institutions, and healthcare professionals. Through this platform, the conference seeks to further promote and advance nursing and health sciences at both national and international levels.
We invite you to submit abstracts of your research contributions or presentations of best practices.

General information:
- Abstracts can be submitted in English or Slovenian, but must be presented in English language.
- We are requesting abstracts and not full papers; they should be structured using IMRAD.
- All abstracts will be subject to blind peer review and published in the Conference Proceedings.
- All authors will receive a Certificate of Participation.
Fee payment for the conference:
- Active participants 150,00 EUR including VAT
- Passive participants 180,00 EUR including VAT
- Other students (passive participants) 50,00 EUR including VAT
- Staff and retired staff, students of the University of Maribor Faculty of Health Sciences are exempt from the fee payments.

Southwest Medical University of China
Prof. dr. Roger Watson is a distinguished academic currently serving as the Academic Dean of Nursing at Southwest Medical University in China. He is internationally renowned for developing the EdFED scale for assessing feeding difficulties in people with dementia and for his expertise in the field of psychometrics. Throughout his prolific career, he was a long-standing professor at the University of Hull and served as the Editor-in-Chief of the prestigious Journal of Advanced Nursing. In recognition of his exceptional academic contributions, the University of Maribor awarded him an honorary doctorate (doctor honoris causa) in 2021.

Cyprus University of Technology
Prof. dr. Andreas Charalambous is a Professor of Oncology Nursing and Palliative Care at the Cyprus University of Technology and a Visiting Professor at the University of Turku in Finland. He is considered one of the most influential leaders in European oncology. He is a past president of both the European Cancer Organisation (ECO) and the European Oncology Nursing Society (EONS). His work focuses on improving the quality of life for cancer patients, digital health, and the standardization of oncology nursing education across Europe.

- Assoc Prof Martin Michailovwski, PhD, FAMIA

University of Minnesota
Dr. Martin Michalowski is an Associate Professor at the School of Nursing, University of Minnesota, in the USA. His work represents a bridge between computer science and clinical practice. He specializes in the development of advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms that assist in clinical decision-making, particularly in the management of patients with multiple chronic conditions (multimorbidity). In addition to his research, he is highly active as a co-founder of the international working group on artificial intelligence in healthcare (AI-Health) and a frequent organizer of key global symposia on the subject.

In individual sessions, the conference will feature invited speakers Assist Prof Lucija Gosak, PhD, Assist Adrijana Svenšek, PhD, and Lect Cvetka Krel. Their research interests include the application of artificial intelligence in healthcare, the integration of mobile health (mHealth) applications for managing patients with chronic diseases, the use of data visualization to promote lifestyle changes in individuals at cardiovascular risk, as well as extended reality and serious games in education. In addition to digital transformation, their work focuses on pediatric nursing, stress management strategies for nurses, ergonomic approaches for preventing occupational injuries, and the psychological aspects of participants in resuscitation procedures.
