Online International Scientific Conference »Research and Education in Nursing«
Microsoft Teams, September 29th 2020
University of Maribor Faculty of Health Sciences is organizing an international scientific conference “Research and Education in Nursing” which will be held on September 29th 2020 via online tool Microsoft Teams and will include most recent findings of domestic and foreign researchers in nursing and other fields of healthcare.
The conference aims to explore advances in nursing research and education as well as linking nursing theory and practice in Slovenian and international arena. Furthermore, it will provide an opportunity for nursing practitioners and educators to exchange research evidence, models of best practice and innovative ideas.
With great anticipation, we look forward to this year's conference "Research and education in Nursing", which we traditionally organize at our faculty, this time due to the measures introduced to contain the spread of the Covid-19 virus in an online version. The conference will be divided into four sessions after the plenary session and will be joined again in the end.
It is a great honour for us to host lectures, held by globally recognized, awarded and valued professors, researchers of Nursing Care Theories and Advanced Nursing Practice.
Professor Jean Watson is a "living legend" nurse theorist, best known for her theory of human caring and the founder of Watson Caring Science Institute.
Professor Marlaine Cappelli Smith is devoted to two nursing areas: developing knowledge related to processes and outcomes of healing and analyzing, extending and applying existing nursing theories.
Professor Marie Carney is an expert in management and leadership as well as Advanced Nurse and Midwife Practice.

Prof Jean Watson is a theoretician, author, professor, researcher and professor of nursing science who devoted life and research to the phenomenon of care, subjective feelings, emotions and experiences. Her research of care includes human and philanthropic science, which focuses on human processes, phenomena and experiences. With her work, she laid the foundations for the profession of nursing care. As a visiting professor, she lectured in many countries, such as Great Britain, Japan, Canada, Israel, Australia, Taiwan and others. She established the Center for Human Care in Colorado. She is also a member of the American Academy of Nursing (AAN) and former President of the National League for Nursing. In 2012, she retired as a Distinguished Professor Emerita and as Dean Emerita. She is also the recipient of many other awards and prizes, among which she also received the Fullbright Research Award in Sweden. In 2013 she was honoured with the highest honour of AAN and was honoured as "Living legend". Currently, she lives in Boulder, Colorado, and actively works for a non-profit Watson Caring Science Institute foundation, as founder and Director. The Foundation takes care of the progress and development of philosophy, practice and the theory of human care. Jean Watson is the author and co-author of more than 30 books that guide the education, research and practice of nurses around the world. There is not a nurse around the globe who is not aware of her philosophy and the theory of caring in nursing. However, we must be aware that the adoption of the concept of care and the provision of caring in nursing care is a central and fundamental task for ourselves.
