Project description:

As part of the "Digital TRANSition and dIgiTal resIlience in ONcology (TRANSiTON)", coordinated by Prof. Dr. Andreas Charalambous from the Cyprus University of Technology and President of the European Cancer Organisation, researchers are focusing on developing new training and improving the digital skills of oncology professionals across Europe. In Europe, there are nearly 4.7 million new cases of cancer and 2.1 million cancer deaths each year. Cancer control is therefore a priority for the European Union, and the digital transformation of healthcare is a key aspect of this commitment. The two-year project, worth €2.3 million, brings together partners from 25 different institutions.

As part of the project, researchers conducted a study on the need to develop digital skills to provide better patient care and, based on their findings, prepared targeted blended learning modules. The areas on which the researchers are focusing include the use of telemedicine, mobile health applications, and automatic messaging to patients. The project will also help to identify potential new, unexplored digital resources that could be introduced to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of practice. The final phase of the project is to assess the impact of the project and the possibilities for wider application in Europe. UM researchers are coordinating the evaluation of the TRANSiTION program as part of Work Package 6 (WP6). They are also participating in other project activities.
