Person-centred care (PCC) is a fundamental approach in healthcare that advocates for individualized treatment and the active involvement of patients in care decisions. It is characterized by an emphasis on addressing the patient's unique needs and preferences, thus going beyond merely treating disease and striving to meaningfully enhance the patient’s life. It is grounded in the principles of empathy, communication, respect, and shared decision-making, and represents a shift away from traditional disease-centred care. Although it is often used interchangeably with patient-centred care, PCC uniquely prioritizes the holistic well-being of patients and aims to improve their quality of life.

The aim of the project is to contribute to the development of programmes that enhance competencies in person-centred care by identifying the factors that influence these competencies and by gathering data to promote person-centred care competencies among nursing students and clinical mentors.

Recognising the importance of person-centredness for patient well-being and practitioner satisfaction, the purpose of this joint research is to fill the knowledge gap regarding PCC competencies among nursing students and clinical supervisors. Investigating the factors that affect PCC competencies in these key stakeholders will provide valuable insights for the development of targeted educational interventions and the promotion of a person-centred culture in nursing education and practice.
